Welcome to Caloran’s new website. We are a Spanish company that helps industry replace expensive gas with renewable heat: solar thermal, heat pumps, electric boilers and thermal storage. By storing heat from day to night, and from summer to winter, we lower the total cost of industrial energy.
We work with Spanish engineering firms and manufacturers and with international experts, and we specialise in food and beverage. Our partners have more than 20 years of experience in industrial decarbonisation, with projects for Lactalis, Heineken, Carlsberg, Colgate-Palmolive and Birra Peroni, among others. At the Birra Peroni brewery in Bari, a 460 kW solar field with T160 collectors has supplied heat up to 160 °C and steam at 8 bar since 2023.
Why now
From 2028, under ETS 2, all industry that burns fossil fuels will enter the EU emissions trading system. At the same time, the EU Heat Auction pays support for every MWh of decarbonised heat for five years, and in the first round Spain had more selected projects than any other country. With the best solar resource in Europe and cheap renewable electricity, replacing gas is now highly profitable.
